Downgrade Office 2016 Standard to Office 2013 Standard (bought on volume licensing)

So, how do you do it? I had to buy 2016 from CDW. They assured me it is able to be downgraded, but could not tell me how. Now I need to do it. I tried installing 2013 and using the 2016 keys, but it would not work. There doesn't seem to be a good source of info on this. I did find some that referred to Office365, but not the retail/standard software option.

If you purchased the product (versus a subscription) then you need to get the Office 2013 key from CDW.

If you purchased a Volume License, then you log in to the Volume License Server Center (VLSC) and download Office 2013 and get the key from there.  If you did not, then you may not be able to legally downgrade (I haven't read the newest versions of the Office Retail license agreement).

To be clear, there's Retail and Volume - Volume is corporate - requires 5 license purchase to establish an agreement that you can re-order on for 2 years.  (5 license doesn't mean 5 office licenses, you can get 1 office license and 4 rental rights licenses and be eligible - rental rights are CHEAP and can fulfill the minimum requirements when you don't need that many of a given license).

You only get ONE key per product unless you make several separate orders... Volume License keys may be reused as many times as your license count.
