server 2003 std .... large amount of file names and file types on file server have unexpectantly changed

Hi ,

A large amount of file names and file types on file server have unexpectantly changed. What is happening? How do I get the names and file types to safely go back to what they were before?

thank you,

Could be crypto locker variant virus.

Are the affected files like pictures files, word docs and spreadsheets?

Hi,

Take a look at the file I have attached.  It seems to be these following file types; .docx. , .ppt, .pdf, .doc. And as I mentioned earlier as seen in the attachment it has changed the name of the file.

Hi,
I am not certain it is Crypto'd because none of my users are indicating they are getting the screen popping up telling them to pay your ransom in BTC in order to unencrypt those files.

Is there anything else it could be?

What do I do next?

I have ran malware scanners on the server and nothing has been found.

thank you,
