Windows 10 firewall service won't start
Hey guys -
I've been all over this for the past 2 hours with no luck. Most of the fixes I find are for windows 7/8 and don't work on windows 10. Normally something like this I would fix with the MS fixit tool, but it complains the OS isn't valid for this tool when I try to run in on this problem machine. I've tried:
netsh firewall reset command - no luck, it says the service isn't running.
SFC /scannow - finds no problem
D7 firewall reset / fix tools - no change
ADWCleaner
Removing all antivirus products (Norton was installed)
When I try to start the windows firewall service, I get "The data is invalid" error code 13. Help is greatly appreciated.
Oh, and also, the start menu doesn't work on this machine either, even after creating a new profile. Windows 10 - not good. I've seen this start menu problem on about 30% of the computers I've seen running windows 10. UGLY. Pressing the button does nothing. Hey microsoft.. we wanted our start menu back - but we'd also like it to DO SOMETHING! :-)

Can you check the "event viewer" and let us know what errors/warnings you get there ?
Why spend time on it, do an inplace upgrade, it will repair things. Just mount the win 10 ISO of the edition and version and language that you are running, start setup. The default option is to keep programs, files and settings.

McKnife - Windows 7 didn't allow this - windows 10 does? My applications won't go away?
