Unable to get HDMI resolution with Adapter
Hi all, I bought an HDMI to VGA converter below:
http://www.startech.com/m/AV/Converters/Video/HDMI-to-VGA-Adapter-Converter-for-Desktop-PC-Laptop-Ultrabook-1920x1080~HD2VGAE
The monitor however does not want to go past 1280x7XX. My video supports Dvi, VGA, HDMI. The second monitor plugged into DVI has the higher resolution of 1920x1080 but the VGA/HDMI does not. How can I increase the resolution?

What is the brand / model of your monitor?

Both are HP LV2311 Monitors.
DVI does up to 1920 x 1080 natively but the VGA-to-HDMI ony goes as high as 1280 x 720 (720p). Why can't it go as high as DVI 1920x1080?

The HP LV2311 should have no problem supporting 1920x1080 with VGA — same for the StarTech adapter. Maybe the problem is the resolution setting in W7. Try this:
Control Panel
Display
Change display settings
Resolution — click the drop-down arrow on the monitor connected via VGA and make sure it is set on 1920x1080

The video card is NVIDIA GeForce 210 PCI -E 2.0 X16
ASKER
Screen resolution shows the monitor with the VGA-HDMI adapter listed as "H2D with highest available resolution being 1280x720 where as the monitor with DVI goes up to 1920x1080

Are you sure the monitor supports more than 1280x7XX? I have several StarTech video adapters and they all work perfectly (all at 1920x1200). To rule out the adapter as the problem, connect the second monitor to it — the one that shows the 1920x1080 resolution when plugged into DVI. Regards, Joe
