Windows 10 search button/bar not working

Hi,

I have captured and deployed a fresh image of Windows 10 to 20 or so computers only to find that the search button is not working on the task bar. Microsoft Support inform me that even with Cortana disabled, the search is still powered by her.

However no matter whether the search is a button or a box, I cannot get it to work. No search launches at all.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Thanks in advance.

I had this and needed to rebuild the search index - and wait. There is an option in control panel

Even microsoft support failed! lol.

Turns out I discovered it to be a corrupt default profile that was transferring the issue to other users. The correct fix was to remove the following folder, which I did using a batch script for all the computers on startup.

c:\users\default\appdata\local\TileDataLayer\*.*

After some trial and error, I managed to resolve this myself. Microsoft support were not able to resolve this but have now documented my solution.
