After some trial and error, I managed to resolve this myself. Microsoft support were not able to resolve this but have now documented my solution.

I have captured and deployed a fresh image of Windows 10 to 20 or so computers only to find that the search button is not working on the task bar. Microsoft Support inform me that even with Cortana disabled, the search is still powered by her.<br />
<br />
However no matter whether the search is a button or a box, I cannot get it to work. No search launches at all.<br />

Has anyone else encountered this?<br />
