In place 8.1 > 10 upgrade won't do - what am I missing

I'm trying to do an in-place upgrade from Windows 8.1 Enterprise 32 bits to Windows 10 Enterprise 32 bits.

However I am graced with the following message:

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Is your win 8.1 a virtual machine?

If yes, the upgrade path might be different.

I reached out to MS support and there was apparently some issues with my win 8.1 VM (it was indeed a virtual machine)  which where repaired by an sfc /scannow - after that the upgrade went smoothly and I'm a happy camper !
