screen recording tool records with less memory consumption

Hi,

I wonder what is the best screen recording software which occupies less memory.

I read for screencast o matic as below
for three hours of audio and video (1024x768) at the three quality settings, saved in an MP4 file:

Lower quality: 263,557,437 bytes
Normal quality: 382,913,432 bytes
Higher quality: 499,810,475 bytes

when i tested screencastomatic with default options( actually changed to full screen recording) for 15 min 58 mb which comes about 232 mb for 1 hour and around 700mb for  hours. I wonder how to change quality settings from high to low and also what it means by 1024*768 and how to select to get results as low as above.(for free version i cannot see low, mediaum, high etc settings). I tried replay capture tool that 1hour 8 min taking 1.8 gb which is very high memory. are there any alternate tools which are cheap or free which occupies less memory to record about 300 hours of screen video from online on my laptop. i am using windows 10 dell laptop. my end goal is to load the videos on my mobile 128gb micro sd card and watch them leisurely wherever i am. please advise

That may be because you're using it in the browser. You may download the app for a local install from here:
https://screencast-o-matic.com/getappdownload

When you click the gear, you get this (maybe the browser version does, too...I don't know...I never use it via the browser...try it if you want):

User generated imageThis a newer version than mine, so it looks different, but as you can see it does have a Size item, as well as sizing handles. So you can definitely do it with the free version — simply select FREE Recorder when you run the locally installed app:

User generated imageBut since the Pro Recorder is just $29 for three years (only $9.67/year), you may want to consider that — it removes the watermark and allows unlimited length recordings (the free version is limited to 15-minute recordings). Regards, Joe

i installed the app.

I do not see the options you are seeing like 1024*768.

what is SOM in your screenshot is that different version of screencastomatic?

i wonder why for me SOM not showing? is it that i installed older version?
i wonder why you preferred 1024*768. I that is preferred which records entire screen except unwanted bottom navigation part like clock date and laptop system utilities panel like internet icon etc?

> I do not see the options you are seeing like 1024*768.

That may be because I have an older version or it may be because I have the Pro version.

> what is SOM in your screenshot is that different version of screencastomatic?

My first post contains two screenshots with my Pro version, which is an old version (I haven't updated it yet). My second post with the two screenshots is the latest version, which I just installed in a sandbox so I can work with you on it.

> is it that i installed older version?

Just the opposite — it's probably because you installed the latest version, or it may be because it's the FREE version, not Pro. But don't worry about that. It doesn't matter that it's not a pre-set. Simply use the dragging handles to make it whatever size you want — the dragging handles work fine even in the FREE version. Of course, for multi-hour videos, you can't use the Free version, anyway — it is limited to 15-minute recordings.

> i wonder why you preferred 1024*768.

I do not prefer 1024x768 — you chose it in your previous question. I asked you this:

"How large of a window would you like me to record?"

You said:

"...choose middle of road.. 1024x768."

So that's what I did.

> I [think] that is preferred which records entire screen except unwanted bottom navigation part like clock date and laptop system utilities panel like internet icon etc?

I record what is needed for any video. For example, in the one that I did for you to play your four songs in the Task Scheduler, I did it at 1280x874. Then I did another one after yours, but that one was at 1018x958, which is what I needed for what I was trying to show in that video. If you look at my EE Profile, you'll see that I've done 22 video Micro Tutorials here (17 published, 5 awaiting review), many of them at varying horizontal and vertical pixels, depending on what made sense for each particular video. can i give multiple files record one after other without me opening one after other?
> can i give multiple files record one after other without me opening one after other?

I'm not sure that I understand the question, but you can certainly record multiple videos without opening one after another. When you're done with a recording, click the Done button, give it a name, and that's it — you can then start a new recording immediately.

snagit how much it cost and how much memory it occupies for 1 hour videos of say medium quality?
Snagit is from TechSmith — the same folks that do Camtasia, as discussed in your previous question. Snagit is more of a screen capture product rather than screen recording, although it can do videos. They also have another product in the same vein called Jing (free). Here are links to all three:

https://www.techsmith.com/snagit.html
https://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html
https://www.techsmith.com/jing.html

Their pricing is here (Jing is not in the store because it's free):

I can't help you with performance data on any of the TechSmith products. Regards, Joe
The filesize is big because there isn't enough time to encode the video while it is capturing the live video.
The movie frames are slightly compressed, but still require a large amount of disk space due to the high resolutions.
After you have finished capturing you can convert the clips into a compressed format using a video editing program.
Probably the easiest one to use is Windows Movie Maker which is included free as part of Windows Live Essentials.
The end result will also be compressed into the format of your choice which will reduce it a lot and can be played back in most media players.
I use fraps and have the same problem but just convert them when done in either WLMM or the excellent free Divx Converter to divx avi

i love to do manual work as above but no time for that. i wonder what is the tool which occupies less memory size apart from screencast o matic automatically by itself. If the answer is no i will go with same screeno matic only
