VM 2008 Server and nic card

I have an HP Proliant DL308 G5 server which holds VMware ESXi-5.5.0...  I just installed server 2008 64 bit on a new virtual machine.  It's not seeing the NIC card.  The card is Broadcom Corp. NC373i Integrated Multifunction Gigabit Server Adapter.  What driver do I need and more importantly how am I supposed to install it, Datastore?

Do you have other 2008 machines working? Is the NIC listed as added in hardware?

In a VM, you will only see virtual hardware not physical hardware so do not expect to see the Broadcom Corp. NC373i in the VM.

I assume you do see this network interface Broadcom Corp. NC373i in the host ?

Also make sure you have used the OEM version of ESXi available from HP, because it has the hooks in the software to communicate with the host hardware correctly, it will only come back to haunt you later, if you've just bunged on a version from VMware!

So what are ESXi version are you using ?

Please make sure you add a network interface of type VMXNET3, you will need to install VMNware Tools to support this.

this is how you install VMware Tools by following my EE Article, step by step tutorial with screenshots to aid you...

that didn't work.  VMXNET3

Could you expand on your post.

Is the HOST or VM missing the interface ?

Please upload a screenshot, of your Network Adaptors on the host!

Yes the tools are installed. Right now no network adapter is installed when I try to install a VM network adapter it say it can't start.  See attached.

did you full patch this server, when you first installed it with the E1000 legacy interface ?

I took out the Ethernet driver from the hardware devices in the properties and added the VM Network.  I'm assuming that's what you meant.  It's working now. Thanks

I was asking if you could remove and install Tools again, since drivers come from the Tools.

had nothing to do with that.  I had to go to the setting of the VM server and edit them I had to change the configuration of the Nic card.
