Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center upgrade to Windows 10 Failing

I am attempting to update my Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center laptop to Windows 10. The Media Creation Tool keeps failing stating that this OS I'm currently on is a different language or unsupported; however, on Microsoft's website it states that it can be upgraded. I know I can do a clean install but I rather upgrade the laptops if at all possible. This has not happened with just one laptop. Any laptop that has Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center will not upgrade via the tool and I have yet to figure out a work around or some way to correct this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is no Windows 10 Media Center so far as I know, and so yes the upgrade is unsupported. For those machines, you need to purchase a Windows 10 license.

Or remove media center before upgrading. That is fully supported. Media center hasn't been a separate edition since XP.

I believe that Media Center is an add-on for Windows 8.  At least that's what I read.

If so, can you remove the Media Center part and try again?

What is the default language of the machines?

ASKER

I looked into removing media center. I would need a separate Windows 8 key for that from my understanding.

Does sound like a bug or file corruption, as the Win 10  Media Creation Tool is meant to warn you to uninstall the Win 8.x WMC add-on before continuing with the upgrade.

As McKnife says even with WMC installed you should be able to upgrade but you'll lose the enhanced functionality of WMC (but find yourself entitled to the DVD package through Windows Update in "compensation"

I appreciate all the feedback. The only odd thing is that I have tried on three separate laptops with Windows 8.1 with Media Center. They are all Dell XPS 13 L322X. I'm upgrading using the tool on this page https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

That is the correct Media Creation link.

Have you contacted Dell Support?

As a follow up to your "I looked into removing media center. I would need a separate Windows 8 key for that from my understanding." - removing media center should be tried. To remove it, follow this tutorial if possible: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/16077-media-center-remove-go-back-windows-8-pro.html

That's the same article I looked at. I will try this and let you know how it goes.

Thanks

Do that, no way it will not work out, I guess, as long as you have a key for 8.1 at hand.
