Open PDF from Container automatically with filemaker go

The problem is opening a pdf file for view with filemaker go when the pdf is in a container that is an external open type container.

Set variable [$output; Value:Get(TemporaryPath) & "sample.pdf"]
Export Field Contents [Chart Records::document; "$output"; Automatically open]

This just brings up "loading web..." and eventually fails.
A solution would be most welcome.

Mark, it's best to post comments on the original question rather than on direct posts to me and to keep the original question thread going. You wrote:

Unfortunately nothing solves my issue so far.  I read about scrolling a pdf, but have not seen that ability no matter what combination i use for my external container.  I have about 132,000 pdf files and have a field in a record.  I have inserted as picture so I can see the first page in a field.  If I pick interactive then the tumbnail like picture in the field is gone.  Problem is I need to be able to view the whole pdf.  I do this on lap tops by exporting and saving to the hard drive then opening automatically the pdf so appears that you just click on the window field and you get to look at the whole pdf.  Won't do that on the ipad.  Also, on the lap top I end up with a billion pdf files on the hard drive to delete later.

What you didn't mention before was the part about an "external open type container". By that do you mean you are storing the file as a Reference only or that you are using  something like 360Works Super Container?

Sorry if not giving enough information.  I just simply made the field in the record a" storage external open " in the options section and it stores everything on an 8 terabyte raid5 pegusis drive.  No other interface.  As far as the computer and software thinks it is just a large thunderbolt drive.
So, yes the actual pdf is not in the database file.  Would have made that file way too big.
Take a look at this Filemaker Knowledge-base article. It doesn't sound like it exactly matches your scenario but it does specifically mention the issue of only displaying the first page of a PDF in FM Go.
