UK internal phone cable v Cat 6e cable

I'm building a new home and we will soon be at first fix for plumbing and electrical in the UK.

What type of wiring should I be using for an internal home phone system in the UK, can I use the same cable as Cat 6e?
Also what is a patch panel in relation to a phone system and broadband ethernet?

Ok so to put things into context I will want to network a 6 bed house with various other rooms.  See the house plan below.   I am thinking of bringing all the services into the storage room (off the ground floor hall).

Agonza07,
I'm confused then as to the difference between opting for a patch panel as you describe and as shown in the pic of that link, compared with simply plugging the end of all those Ethernet sockets from each room into the back of a multi port switch/hub. They would both do the same thing right so what am I missing?

If the patch panel then goes into one of those metal boxes as shown in the pic, again what is the point because they can be screwed to the wall? Is it purely for cosmetic purposes or fire proofing?   What are those metal boxes called?

Perarduaadastra,
Thx.  I didn't realise that I could have PoE with Cat6 cables.   Is anything else needed?   What provides sufficient power to enable this because again don't the ends of all this ultimately end up in the back of a powered router or does the patch panel have its own power supply?

This is all new to me so I'm learning as I go along.

On the example you gave - why would you have a LAN separately for phone  and another for computer.  Again they are all connecting on one home network So why differentiate?

Could you please both recommend some actual examples of patch panels I should consider from the UK Amazon site assuming a max 4 cables to each bedroom and maybe 4 to each living room area and 2 to the garage (automated garage door and boiler system for automated home).

Also some example links of IP camera which can be powered simply by the PoE Ethernet cable?

Many thanks.

All of this sounds very interesting and I am looking forward to playing around with creating this network (I used to build computers and play with electronics as a hobby although this is not my field).

As I will not be employing anyone to design a network for me, what is the fail safe mechanism for me at this moment in time if I want to make sure the basic infrastructure is in place before the builders start closing up the ceilings / dry walling etc.  If I run 5x Cat 6 cables to each room and bring all the cables into the secure store room I showed on the ground floor plan above, that should be sufficient for now right?  Are there other things I should consider running as well at this time to ensure I dont regret not doing it later?  By the sounds of it, the patching or connecting to the switching / hub etc can only be designed later?

I have started the above new question  to address the bit about cables further, if you are both happy to participate.

agonza,
what type of cables are you referring to, to include for wireless access points and cameras as part of the cable drops - they are the same Cat6e right?
Yes, same cables. Just the drops are what I was referring to.

Perarduaadastra
When you say the cable length drops to 80m, you mean for each PoE on each switch right, not the sum of all the cable lengths connecting to the sum of all the PoE switches?

And regarding your point about not getting a gigabit PoE switch, will that not then defeat the points of networking the whole house with cat 6 cable if I then go for 10/100 powered switches?

Thanks, I will close this question after your latest response.
