How to Set Default Program in Windows 10 When File Type Is Not Listed
In Windows 10 you can set the default program to open file types from Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Default Programs > Set Default Programs.
Unfortunately, PDF is not a file type listed. How can I set Adobe Acrobat to be the default program instead of the Edge browser? I use Acrobat Pro 9.0 and Acrobat Standard 9.0 on two different computers. Since the system defaults to Edge, it never asks which program to use to open the file.

Hello
I have done this in Windows 10 Home with Edge and acrobat DC (15.010.20060) within the hour the system starts notifying me there is an issue and defaults PDFs back to edge and Jpgs and other image formats back to the default windows photo viewer. This just makes me crazy it is an endless cycle. I cannot see a solution anywhere so hoping someone here can help.
Thanks
RL

I cannot see a solution anywhere so hoping someone here can help. <-- Don't use Edge. It remains unready for prime time business use.
How can you get rid of edge?
You cannot get rid of Edge. Make IE Default (Start, Settings, Default Apps) and just do not use Edge.
so my preference is chrome, when I set default to chrome windows just resets it it happens constantly, it does not keep any of my default settings, any ideas on that?
I set IE to default hoping it sticks

See if you can set Chrome as default in Windows 10 Default Settings. I use IE myself.
set it to IE hoping that allows the other settings to stick, bloody thing opens PDF in edge anyway :-(
Go to Control Panel, Associations and set ALL PD (whatever) extensions that belong to Adobe and set the extension.
I have Adobe and I have Edge installed and default is IE and PDF's never open in Edge (either of my own Windows 10 machine or any Client Windows 10 machine).

Well this wasn't working for me but I found a possible fix for my registry settings.
I'll let everyone know how it goes, the post had good feedback. It is not from expert exchange so I am not sure if it is okay to post the link here.

In a properly working machine, you do not need a registry fix to make PDF's open properly.
