The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust.

We are running a fully patched Exchange 2010 with Outlook 2010 clients on Windows 7 Pro workstations. I have 2 users that log into their own machines and when they open Outlook they get a Security Alert popup that reads: ourmailserver.domain.com  Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the site's security certificate. Then there is a red X next to: The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust. View the certificate to determine whether you want to trust the certifying authority. A Green X: The security certificate date is valid. And another Green X: The security certificate has a valid name. The user then clicks on: View Certificate, Then Install Certificate.., Next at the Welcome to the Certificate Import Wizard, Next to automatically select the certificate store based on the type of certificate. Finish to complete the certificate import wizard. And at that time instead of the usual Thumbprint popup we get the "The import was successful." popup. Once this is done they get into their email and all works w/no popups until they close Outlook then open it again. If they click on the New button to create a new email that triggers the certificate popup again.

I have had them login to different machines and work their email and they do not get the popup. I have logged into their machines and my email and I do not get the popup. I have granted them local admin rights and opened their mail and created a new email that triggered the popup and had them go through the cert import again but that did not work. The only thing that's common is that those 2 machines are new (3 months old now) but it seems to be a user issue specific to that machine. They don't seem to have any other issues w/email other than this. I'm at a loss, can anyone help?

Thank you!

Try manually putting the certificate in the trusted root certification authorities tab.

If that does not work, then verify that the two computers having the issue are the same version of outlook as the ones that are not.

How would I go about doing that?
When you go to "install" the certificate as you have been, you can brown the Cert directory and choose Trust root certification authorities.
Hi,
The two user accounts have an odd certificate which means Exchange doesn't trust them. You need to move  existing certs into the Trusted path of the cert store.

From run type certmgr.msc and choose local machine. Then find the certificate and move it to  Trusted folder.

This is a work around though. This  should not happen but I don't know enough about Exchange.

Robert,

When I do that all I get is "The import was successful" then I hit the New E-mail button and no popup. But upon closing Outlook then reopening it and clicking the New E-mail button I get the popup again.

Can  you confirm they are on the same outlook version as the other workstations which are not having the issue?
This sent me down the right path and I ended up using IE to import certs and it worked!
