WinXP Unable to Print

I have an issue on a Windows XP / SP1 machine where nothing gets printed.  Other PCs on the same network can print ok to the same printer.  On this particular WinXP PC if I print from Word or NotePad I can see the document appear in the print queue for a couple of seconds then it disappears, but never gets printed.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver software a couple of times.  The HP diagnostic software scans issues but doesn't detect that there are any issues.  I have verified that the Printer Spooler service and dependent RPC services are running.  I've looked at the Event logs but no errors stand out that I have seen.  Besides updating this PC or doing a WinXP repair is there anything else I could try to fix this type of problem?

Thanks.
