Office 365 desktop software licenses?

Are there any licenses in Office 365 that support installing the desktop version of Microsoft Office in a similar way as you would through volume licensing?

E.g. you purchase X number of licenses in your Office 365 subscription, and you download an offline installer which you can customize / automate so that you can silently, and automatically install Office on your computers and the end result is that they are properly licensed via the Office 365 subscription?

So far all I've seen is the E3 and Office ProPack licenses, both of these involve ljogging into the Office 365 portal, downloading a one-time-use "stub" installer, and manually installing the software. There's no standard way for an IT administrator to automate it and keep all the licenses organized.

I'd love to sell my clients on Office 365 subscriptions instead of forking out the money upfront for Microsoft Office Professional Plus, but I can't find a good way to automate the installation.

Office Subscription is a very economical way to buy Office. Your clients should do this themselves as it is their credit card that will be charged.

They will not download the whole product. That is what click-to-run is about. But they can always install and reinstall.

What service would you provide them in this scenario?

You can automate the deployment of C2R installations via the ODT tool or config manager or even a GPO script. There's detailed documentation on TechNet: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219422.aspx
