Need -a- Clue
asked on
Where can I get my HP Envy 120 printer repaired?
My Envy printer will not scan or copy properly. It prints a page that is almost entirely black with some color. HP will not fix it at any price. I bought it for its small size. They want to replace it with a HUGE printer. It is under paid warranty service. Note: when doing a scan the preview window shows exactly what will print. It does show the black screen. I am in Colorado. The closer the better.

Before you bin it did you update the firmware? There's a known random problem with the Envy AIO's where they print black/grey pages with a criss-cross pattern of colored lines. It's meant to be fixed with this firmware patch which can also be installed through the EWS wirelessly on the printer.

MASQ I was very optimistic when I read your suggestion. I followed all the upgrade instructions to the letter and it will not allow me to proceed. I unplugged it for 2 minutes then powered it back on. No faults were showing. It seems to think there is an error showing or no paper or a jamb somewhere. There is not. I tried it all again and still it will not allow me to proceed. Any more clues??
1) The Paper Jam error can mean a lot more than just paper being stuck
2) Have you tried the update through the printer's own control panel? You'll need to connect the wireless interface out though your Internet connection

I followed your suggestion and was able to get a bit further. I reset the printer to factory default settings. Then attempted to do any firmware update I could locate. Everywhere I went it told me that I presently DO have the latest version of firmware. HP wants to replace this in warranty printer with a huge 8620. The 8620 looks nothing like the defective printer. I purchased two of these due mainly to the great size and appearance. So far, this is the 2nd one to fail and also I had a defective new one only one month after purchase. It seems like this might be the end of the line for this printer. It is a shame that hp does not choose to have a repair facility and method to get a repair done. Thank you so much for your Expert advice. I really DO appreciate the time you take to help me.
