Can I install SQL Server on Server ESSENTIALS 2012 R2?
If I purchase Server ESSENTIALS 2012 R2 (which includes 25 CAL’s but you can’t purchase them separately or go beyond 25) can I install SQL STANDARD on it? I have been getting contrary information—some saying that you can’t because there are really no CAL’s on Server Essentials and some saying that you can as long as you limit users to 25 and purchase SQL CAL’s.

You will have to purchase user cals for the SQL users. Unfortunately essentials is not like SBS2008 where the licensing is integrated.

Thanks. I understand the CAL's but can I install it since Essentials is a DC?
