Universal Charging Solution for Notebooks
Hi all
The company I work for is looking to implement BYOD and flexible work desks and it is looking for a universal charging solution for portable devices. I think that for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets it is sufficient to provide Micro-USB, USB C and Lightning cables but for notebooks the case is different. Not all notebooks demand the same voltage/amperage and they do not want to depend on one supplier (For example: most Dell notebooks can work on the same charger).
Does anyone have any ideas or a train-of-thought?
Thanks in advance!

I have an AC outlet adapter at a client that I can plug USB into and that works. Most places, I need an AC adapter that provides USB output.
Don't forget, USB output is 5 volts and some devices need 12 Volts or some such. So the adapter for the device includes voltage conversion as well.

Most of the eBay adapters I have seen are not the best solution (some downright wrong) so I avoid them.

I concur, buying poor-branded chargers is not a solution.

honestly, I have to agree with you on the quality consideration.
what i meant was "universal" could be feasible as most vendor's adapters share the SAME range of voltage and current. in a few words, technically possible. :)

@Triforce2000 - Thanks and I was happy to help.

Apparently there are solutions, for example:
Targus has the following product:

I do question how this dock delivers the right voltage/amperage, could it be through resistors in the adapters? I do have some doubts though.

Thanks for your reply, I figure USB ports for charging will be provided anyhow in the power outlets. I am beginning to think as well that there is no magic solution to the story.
