Connecting Libraries Across SharePoint 2010 Farms

I need to connect SharePoint 2010 repositories (Lists and Libraries) from sites that exists on two completely separate farms. What are the options for accomplishing this? I want users from each site to be able to access repositories that exist on the other site.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

try bamboo list rollups and bamboo products. They are really the best at managing items that reside outside of the acceptable realm of MS security.

What other options are there? Are they all 3rd party applications?

Search could easily encompass both locations. That's if aggregation is your goal.

Or are you more interested in the permissions management somehow being in place across both without managing that in two farms?

Yes, permissions management across both without managing that in two farms. Would I have to be a farm level administrator to achieve this or would Site Collection Administrator be enough?
Jamie McAllister MVPSharePoint ConsultantCommented:
What I would do is set up common AD Groups in both farms, and then manage the members of those AD groups centrally. That way you could have 100 farms and manage permissions once, assuming all farms have access to the DC.

Site Collection admin is enough to add the users to both farms (manually or via AD group they are all in). I'm guessing the farms are on the same domain, so both farms could see the AD group without some sort of cross-domain trust set up.
