lexmark load tray 1 with plain paper letter

We have a Lexmark MS415dn printer connected via USB to a PC running Windows 7 Professional. I cannot print to this printer because when I try, on the LCD display it says "load tray 1 with plain paper letter." I have checked the settings for this printer. Tray 1 is the default and the paper type for that tray is plain, letter-sized paper. I have no idea why it keeps giving me this message.

john8217,

Open the paper tray, ensure there is paper, and ensure that the guide bars are set to the appropriate size.

I would check the paper tray. If the paper alignment levers (whatever they call those things that make sure the paper is sitting snugly in the tray) get knocked of their proper placement, the printer will think some other sort of paper is inserted and will prompt the user to insert the expected paper type.

If the paper in the tray is aligned correctly for letter size, then check the paper settings in the the printer itself.   you can probably get to the paper tray settings from the menu on the front panel to check the paper settings configured for each tray and change them if needed.

When you go to print, check the paper size and type under Printer Properties. If yoy're printing from Word, check these under Page Setup before you print.
