Upgrading Linux

I have fresh installation of Redhat 5.9 Linux but now the requirement is to upgrade It to rhel 5.11

Can you please give me the steps Required to upgrade the Server .
Is it necessary to put a license before the upgrade.

Yes, it is required that you have a license and you are connected to Red Hat Network or a Red Hat Satellite in order to upgrade.

The upgrade is simple... Use the following command to update:

yum update
You can install RHEL 5.11 directly. Or CentOS.
Is there a reason why you don't install 6.5?
Or 7.1...

note the difference:
5.x 6.x is still managed like classic startup code
7.x uses systemd
and it is rather different,
for RH, Fedora, CentOS they also radically changed to new tooling for IP & interface management.
6.x with upstart is not very classic startup code.
there could be upstart scripts that are not easy to port to systemd.
You can still use sysvinit scripts on all 3 versions.
