Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to X Upgrade Message

One of my users seemed to initiate an Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to Acrobat X Upgrade. Every time they go to use 9 it displays an upgrade message. Of course they don't have the serials and prior purchased software. I see version 9 and X on the desktop. Is there a way to reverse this? If there is no way to reverse it and I can find the Acrobat 9 Serial can I just upgrade it for the $199 charge?
