DNS entries WINDOWS 2008 r2

creating a DNS ENTRY TRYING TO CREATED  OUR INTRANET.COM AND IT SHOULD DIRECT THE USERS TO A SERVER NAME ABC.SRV.APP WITH A IP ADDRESS 10.1.1.1.

DO I NEED TO CREATE A   DNS entry and that create cname entry  ?

so when a user type in "intranet.com" it redirects the a server name " ABC.SRV.APP" with IP address 10.1.1.1

example :        http://intranet.com"

Hi,

Is INTRANET.COM site hosted internally? if so, simply create a CNAME record on your internal zone with pointing to the correct server. Another option would be creating a blank "com" zone and add an 'A' record which pointing to the IP address. Both of them will redirect the query to the site when you enter intranet.

HI Radhakrishnan

Yes it's  hosted internally,  and I added  an Cname record but when i type in

http://intranet.com  I get a error saying " this page can't be displayed". using  internet explorer 11 .

any help would be great.

thanks
Hi,

Just type http://intranet or http://servername/intranet. What's the outcome?
Hi Radhakishnan

when I type in

http://intranet  ............ i GET ANOTHER  intranet site that comes up ( that's the intranet at HQ)

when I  type in

http://servername/intranet ..... i receive an error : page can't be displayed.
HI Radhakrishnan

another note when i type in
http:// ( servername) the intranet web site comes up. so the Cname  I created is

intranet.mx which points to (servername).

thanks for your help
Ok..Can you create another DNS entry? Create an 'A' record which should point to Name - intranet (actual FQDN would be - intranet.yourdomain.com), IP Address - 10.1.1.1

Once created, try http://intranet this should bring the page.
I'm a little confused. Can you clarify whether you want your users to type http://intranet.com, http://intranet.mx, or simply http://intranet to bring up the site?
i'm sorry

i want them to type in
http://intranet.mx   and go the the web page http://servername.

when we type in http://servername the web page comes up

HI all

I have created an forward lookup zone name "intranet.mx" and added a blank host record that points to the ip address  on the intranet  server.

do you have document on how to create a host header on the intranet site ?

thanks for the support.
If the intranet site happens to be running in Microsoft IIS 7 (the version built into Server 2008 R2), this article will tell you exactly how to do it.

If it's running on a newer version of IIS, I'm afraid I can't find a corresponding article. The procedure should be very similar, though the interface might be a little different.

If the site is running on something other than IIS, I'm afraid I have no idea how to do it.
Adding host headers- open the intranet site, bindings in the right hand side (action panel), edit bindings,  in the host name field add the intranet address.
HI  All

We are  going to make the corrections on the Microsoft IIS server today.  WE are running MS 7  windows 2008 R2.    Should know something  soon will keep you up to date.

thanks for the support
All:

the accepted solution was from DRDave242, I followed his solution and EVERYTHING  working.  Thanks DRDAVE242 for you help . Just finished testing and everything is working .  so this is what I did

set up a forward lookup zone and name it "intranet.mx". then  create a blank host record with the IP address of the server. After that we created a host header on the intranet site itself.  Tested and   now user can gain access to the  web page.

Thanks for your help.
