How to minimize the path of packets to my application?

Hi,
I'm building an application that will hande tons of traffic.  I would like to solve the problem of having the packets not go through the unix kernel as the network stack is complicated and slow.  In making the path of packets more direct, I'd like to eliminate the OS handling the packets.  I've read that you can write your own driver...but thats out of my area.

How complex would it be to integrate Intel DPDK or PF_RING onto a Redhat 6.6 box?

Thx!
