Internet Traffic Monitoring for Small Business
I have a client with about 24 PC's on their network. They have an ADSL2 connection which runs at 12MB up and 1MB down.
Normally performance is acceptable. Lately it is running so slow I can't remote in to it.
I attend on-site and can see it running slow but when trying to isolate the problem performance returns to normal.
I suspect there is an employee abusing the internet connection and when they see me on-site they stop whatever it is they are doing.
The Router is a Billion 7800DX which, according to the documentation, supports "SNMP v1, v2, MIB-I and MIB-II support ".
Is there and easy, and cheap, way I can monitor what's going on?
Or can I sit a PC between the switch and the router and monitor everything going in and out to the internet? Obviously I'd need some tools to analyse this.

I managed to track down the culprit so the problem is no longer so pressing. He knows we are monitoring him now so I don't think it will happen again.
I am still interested in pursuing the proxy server idea. I will set up one in my office and learn how it operates before implementing it at the client's site.
