Server 2012R2 Foundation and Server 2000
We have a new customer in the Health industry who have a Server 2000 environment, don't ask, consisting of an exchange server, Cluster and Domain controller. All is no longer required and we feel that a small 2012R2 Foundation server will fit the bill. As the license for this is only one domain controller we were wondering if we would be able to join this to the existing domain first then decommission the existing 2000 domain controller. This would make it so much easier to migrate the PC and users etc.
What do you think, before I have to create a test environment, thanks in advance.

Unfortunately 2012 R2 will only joins 2003 or higher domain. 2000 is just too old. You'll either have to rebuild the domain from scratch or introduce an older domain controller temporarily to bridge the gap.

Sorry should have mentioned that's what we plan to do. Although I do need to know it would join the domain as it has to be the o ly domain controller. That is not a problem anyway S everything else will be decommissioned anyway.
