Server 2012, downgrade standard installation to essentials

We have taken over management of a server with Server 2012 Stanard installed, but not yet activated.

It is a small company with 10-15 users and we see no need for the extra cost/features of Standard. The Essentials version will do everything we require, and is far cheaper as there is no need for CALs (we are well within the 25 user limit)
The server has already been depolyed, and is acting as a domain controller etc.

Is there a way we can downgrade to Essentials rather than having reinstall the OS?
