We are building our AWS infrastructure and looking to build resiliency by automating scheduled backups on the EC2 Instances and use an Autoscale group that would restore from the latest Snapshot. <br />

Solution/Product should:<br />
-Take inventory (plus is to use Tags) . <br />
-Create Scheduled Snapshots as well as purge older then X days<br />
-Have Autoscale configuration that will use the latest Snapshot. <br />

I am open to all solutions whether it's Paid Product or scripting solution like Python, AWS-CLI, other

AWS Snapshots and Recovery

Cloud computing, also known as on-demand computing, is a kind of Internet-based computing where shared resources and information are provided to computers and other devices. It is a model for enabling ubiquitous, on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources. Cloud computing and storage solutions provide users and enterprises with various capabilities to store and process their data in third-party data centers, relying on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and economies of scale.

Cloud Computing

Amazon Web Services (AWS), is a collection of remote computing services, also called web services, that make up a cloud-computing platform  operated from 11 geographical regions across the world. The most central and well-known of these services include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, also known as "EC2", and Amazon Simple Storage Service, also known as "S3". Other services include Elastic MapReduce (EMR), Route 53 (a DNS web service),  provides a highly available and scalable Domain Name System (DNS) web service, Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), storage, database, deployment and application services.

The term "Backup" means the methods and processes involved to copy computer data (system data as well as application data) to media other than the ones where the data originally live (disk, tape, optical, cloud). "Restore" in turn means the methods and processes involved in data recovery, i. e., bringing back copied computer data to their original location. Backup/Restore primarily serves as a means of protection against data loss, be it due to disaster, corruption or sabotage. It can also be used for recovering data from an earlier point in time and even for cloning machines or applications. There is a wide variety of backup/restore software available, from expensive commercial products to free or open source tools.

Virtualization is the act of creating a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, including (but not limited to) a virtual computer hardware platform, operating system (OS), storage device, or computer network resources. Virtualization is usually the creation of a system that executes separate from the underlying hardware resources, or the creation of an entire desktop for systems located elsewhere, similar to thin clients.

Disaster Recovery is the planning for and creation of policies and procedures related to the resumption or continuation of an organization's functions following a catastrophic event. The term is most frequently used in relation to failure of networks, but DR preparations also include other business systems and personnel considerations.
