Why would downloading El capitan OSX update be troublesome e.g timeout many many times??

On a mac book pro I have been repeatedly trying to download the file - why all the timeouts?? I have a wired connection 100megabits
No idea why???

Hi  rssdds,

My solution for that before was to backup all my files and reinstall my previous OSX then upgrade to EL Capitan.. that would be the best approach for this problem.
Are you trying to download the full upgrade to El Capitan from another OS like Yosemite, or the upgrade from OS 10.11.2 to 10.11.3?

If the former, are you trying to download by using the install OS option from the recovery partition, or downloading from the App Store?

If you are trying to download from the recovery partition, instead try downloading it from the App store.

If the latter, where are you trying to download from - the App Store?

If you are trying to upgrade from 10.11.2 to 10.11.3, try this link instead of the App store: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1859?locale=en_US

I am using a different apple id  for the download which was done by the apple store but frankly the whole download makes no sense. (the apple id requested on the macbook was different than the id used for download
I keep retrying and get a bit further in each attempt which I take to mean that the file will eventually fully download. The big question here Apple directed me to a different URL
https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=1018109117&mt=12&ls=1

It still keeps moving fotrward in the download but failing along the way
i am trying to upgrade from osx 10.6.8 to el capitan  osx on  a mac book pro from 2010
2.4 ghz clock speed intel core duo(two threads)
memory DDR3 4GB 1067 Mhz
Note that i am now at 5.27 GB out of 6.19 GB so i am closer to completion but i continually appear to error out meanwhile true to Apple form little feedback is given
on another note is there any way to assess network through put on the apple even from the terminal?
Note to apple: An Error has occurred is a retarded error message. Duh yeah but what error so I can actually deal with the error - Not even a code is given so how the heck am I to deal with this problem. Is it a bandwidth problem, a server timeout  problem, A client version/hardware compatibility  problem????? It is so lame of Apple!!!

I suggest that you just continue the download and keep trying until it's done.  It seems like it's almost there.  You should make a copy of it for the future.  I keep my copies backed up, in case I want to go back to an earlier version for testing software.

Is 203.122.233.11 even an actual DNS server?  It seems to point to someone's ADSL line.

Non-authoritative answer:
11.233.122.203.in-addr.arpa      name = eth16140.sa.adsl.internode.on.net.

Is it trustworthy?  It's not wise to point to someone else's random DNS server if you don't know if it's trustworthy.  Private server's can redirect whatever they want to wherever they want.
This link suggests using the Google or OpenDNS servers instead:

http://www.crazyengineers.com/threads/osx-el-capitan-download-speed-slow-fixed.84245/
Then you should choose an actual, publicly available, well known DNS server, rather than some random one from someone's blog.  That IP you gave is not functioning for DNS, at least not from my locale.

I did continue the download with the hope that the whole checksumed file would checkout and run and sure enough after a night of clicking on retry buttons it downloaded. Perhaps your answer will help others. I have to report Apple provides lame debug information namely:
An Error has occurred Even college students code error reporting better than that!
Your comment doesn't match the answer that you've selected.

You can always try to submit a bug report to Apple.  https://bugreport.apple.com/  You'll need an Apple ID.
