DHCP Server not giving out Ip addresses
Hi, we just lost one of our domain controllers which was our dhcp server on windows server 2012

I have just created the role on the other domain controller and activated the scope but none of my clients are obtaining an ip address, no leases are being handed out.

Am I missing something here? What could be the problem?

You say the scope is activated, however, have you Authorized the DHCP server?

Are the clients in the same vlan as the DHCP server?

Also, You may have a config on a switch / router pointing the ip-helper address to the old server, unless the IP of the new one is the same as the old one they wont find it..

Hi, yes same van and I have authorized the server.... The server is also the company dns server and logon server and the clients are using it fine if I give the clients a static IP....

HI, I dont think anything on the switch is configured to point at the old dhcp server but it feels like something is.....

If I wiresharek I get this

221	11.916287	10.5.0.100	255.255.255.255	DHCP	346	DHCP ACK - Transaction ID 0xce9ee13b

This is the ip of the dhcp server.. So its doing somthing.. Just not issuing addresses?

Try either restarting the DHCP service or reboot the server altogether.

Are the leases actually expired from the old machine yet? Windows will attempt to renew an existing lease well before it expires, but it won't necessarily grab a new lease from a new server yet )that isn't technically a renewal.) So if you just aren't seeing new leases, that us normal. But if you are seeing *problems* then you may have issues.

Ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew are your friends as us Wireshark.

If you have a Cisco firewall do you have your DHCP relay set?

Make sure the windows firewall is turned off on the new server.

You can try clearing your ARP cache on your switches.

Make sure your firewall interface and server are on the same vlan.

Try doing an ipconfig /renew and flushdns on work station

Make sure your DHCP server services are running

On the DHCP server with a static ip, can you ping the firewall and switches? If not check LAN settings gateway and port of switch to make sure it's on the correct VLAN.
