Can SQL 2008 Management Objects (SMO) be removed if SQL SMO 2008 R2 version is installed without causing an corruption in R2 version? 2008 version is 10.1.2531 vs 2008 R2 is 10.53.6000.

We're trying to troubleshoot some third-party vendor issues and we're thinking there might be conflict, so removing the earlier version might help.

SMO is part of SQL Server and can't be removed alone. You'll need to remove everything related to SQL Server 2008.
Why do you think the issue is with SMO?

Right click Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Management Objects and remove it. Avamar backups is having a hard time with the SMO version--we're trying to eliminate errors.

How did you install MSSQL 2008 SMO? Must be installed with the engine or some MSSQL client. If you remove it alone it may stop other application.
