Exchange 2016/2010

We have a Server 2008 R2 Forest with Exchange 2010 servers around the world. We will be looking at upgrading to Exchange 2016 - and understand that we can install using co-existance, or create a new Exchange environment and port the data over.

In the meantime, is it possible to install Exchange 2016 on the internet-facing CAS servers to make use of the new webmail look/feel and have them communicate with the underlying 2010 mailbox servers?
