Windows 10 Backup with VM

I want to backup my Windows 10 machine (which has VirtualBox installed and has a VM also running Windows 10)
How do I back the entire system up so that it includes the VM?

I want to back it up on a hard drive.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I assume your base windows 10 is directly installed. Of course it has to be.

that or use windows 7 backup included with windows 10

Veeam Endpoint Protection is pretty good and 'free'
Just first shutdown the VM, then backup your complete system like you would do normally. If you don't manually exclude the VM's files, they'll get backed up too. Shutting the VM down makes sure the files aren't open which can cause problems.
