SBS 2011 Std. - things are falling apart! An untrusted certificate authority was detected While processing the smartcard certificate used for authentication.

Having loads of problems with SBS 2011 Standard. Not sure if they are related. Taking them 1 at a time.   This is just running as a file server and exchange server for 9 users.

desktops backup with Shadow protect to a share on the server that requires different credentials.  Their shares are working OK to the server. But now when Shadow protect tries to get to the share, all the desktops get

we're not using smartcards

the problem started on 1/31/16. Looking at certificates on the server, there was a self signed cert I saw that expired 1/31/16.  I wound up rekeying a godaddy cert on the server and running the fix my network wizard.  the wizard didn't say anything about an expired cert. but now there's  no 1/31/16 cert expirations.

message persists / they can't get to the share that uses the different credentials stored in shadowprotect.  they CAN get to all the usual shares.
