How to side load Sharepoint 2013 apps?

Hi, I've just installed an evaluation copy of Sharepoint 2013 on a single server running Win2012R2 server.  There are a few apps I wanted to add to our Sharepoint site but each time I want to add apps from the Sharepoint store, I get the error msg, "Sorry, apps are turned off.  If you know who runs the server, tell them to enable apps."  Seems like I have to open up our firewall and create a DNS entry to allow our server to access the Sharepoint Store.    This I don't wish to do.
So it seems there is a way to enable side loading of apps, but I can't understand some of the explanation given on the web.  Can someone help out please?  Thanks.

Thanks Norm.  The first link let me to group policy update. Nothing to do with sharepoint.
Yes, I've already been reading on the web about apps but my main question was how to enable side loading.  Anyways, I've found the answer and now my Sharepoint evaluation site can side load apps.
Sorry about the wrong link, it must have been for another question I was working on. I meant to send you this one: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161231.aspx
Thanks Norm but I've gone through that link before.
I got side apps running and also found a bug with names or event missing after I logged off the Sharepoint server.
Sounds good. I'm glad you got the side apps running anyway!
Thanks Norm.  Although I've already read those links you sent me, I appreciate your time in looking into my question.
