Forum or Message Board with SMS notifications
I have a committee that would like to collaborate on projects and assignments, but do not want to be required to have a google or Facebook account. We also would like to use SMS, or a phone app that would provide push notifications when other members make comments, or post new info that requires attention.
Are there any no-cost, low cost solutions available that meet the specs listed?

I actually tried that via a google group and it did not provide an opportunity for the user to accept the invite to the group. I then sent a test invite to an email address and it worked, so not sure how to get around that.
I found the invite portion of the sms message exceeded the character limit, so was not displayed

I am currently testing a Wordpress forum plugin, but will pursue this solution if it does not meet our needs.
Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have questions on my comment. I know you will try your Wordpress forum plugin first, and hopefully it works for you, but if not feel free to reach out.
So as long as the system does email notifications you could do the SMS that way.
