I have a small paper tape printer that has a RS-232 interface with a standard 9-pin D-sub connector.  I would like to use the printer with an instrument (not connected to a PC) that has a USB connection for printers.  Will a USB Serial Adapter work in an application without a PC to load drivers on?

Can a RS232 to USB adapter work on a non-PC application?

A peripheral device is defined as a computer device, such as a keyboard or printer, that is not part of the essential computer (i.e., the memory and microprocessor).
