We moved all the shares off first to an active server.<br />

This would be the best method that way you can test to make sure the users can access your shares<br />
<br />
especially if you have issues with that other server you are removing from being a DC

As long the server is joined to the domain and the same permissions stay you should not have a problem.<br />

DCPromo will remove the AD but i can't remember if it will dis join from the domain as well.<br />
<br />
Even in either case it does just take note of all the shares and permissions.<br />
<br />
Re join to the domain and re share the folders and add old permissions.<br />
<br />
No reason should not work,

We had a typical small setup with two 2003 servers acting as domain controllers. &nbsp;The primary 2003 has been now moved to a 2012 server. &nbsp;The BDC 2003 server we have is also acting as User Shares. &nbsp;I would like to DCPromo this down to a stand alone server but am worried I will lose the User Shares in the process. &nbsp;Has anyone done this before successfully?<br />
