http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_install/how-to-repair-your-system-files-using-dism-and-sfc/1021b42a-09ff-41a0-a95a-48f3ee3ae699?auth=1

to repair my Windows 10 from ISO download from the link you all show me, but when I run this:

 4.1 DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:X:\Sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess

If you can start Windows 10, it is now licensed in the Microsoft Licensing Servers. You can install fresh or otherwise from the Media Creation Link.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Choose the option to Keep Data and Applications, or to Keep Data only, or to Keep Nothing (fresh install).

You do not need to download an ISO to save, just run in place.

I am using that ISO already.

"You do not need to download an ISO to save, just run in place."

what do you mean ?

"Choose the option to Keep Data and Applications, or to Keep Data only, or to Keep Nothing (fresh install)."

you mean launch setup.exe within Widnows 10 and select upgarde and keep everyitng ?
Yes. Look down the link a bit, and launch in the installer to run in place.

At some point after updates (this could take a while) you will be prompted for what to keep and answer as appropriate. Probably Keep Data and Applications.

rindi,

"You'd have to extract the iso file into a directy, then you'll he wim file, or burn it to a DVD."

I done that but only install.wim , not the .wim file it is asking for.

,John Hurst,

but that one is the upgrade, not repair ,right?  I want repair ..

David Johnson,

"if you double click the .iso file it should mount and use the next available drive letter. You might have to select open with explorer. or mount. when done right click the drive letter and select eject "

done that.

"btw that article is very old. are you using version 10240 or 15111 either way use the Media Creation Tool to create the .iso"

they looks the same, any diff you can see?
I am using 1511 and the media creation tools I am using should give me 1511 ?
it should give you 1511
I just download it and mount it, it only have install.wim
Install.wim:1 the :1 is saying use index:1 from install.wim

John Hurst,

"Windows 10 is new. You can run the Media Creation link, set up to install, and then Keep all Data and Keep all Applications. T"

you mean windows 10 can just do upgrade to repair files and it is just like repair and it don't kill the existing applicaiotn ?

There must be an install.wim file. If there isn't your download either failed or you got the wrong iso file.
I using the same link to download. it is a media creation tools.exe file. or what file it will give.
when I run the setup.exe from the ISO, it give:

User generated image
but it doesn't say it keep application, just apps.
Yes it does. Apps = applications .  The first option keeps everything.
apps seems not equal to applications,.....

apps is windows 10 apps, the apps download from store, right?

I doubt about that.

Sorry.

let's wait for the DISM answer.
Fine on the DISM question.

However, Apps DOES = Applications. I have done this both ways, and when I keep apps, ALL is kept.
And regarding the dism, as I already mentioned, there has to be a install.wim in the iso, or there is something wrong with it.
rindi,

"And regarding the dism, as I already mentioned, there has to be a install.wim in the iso, or there is something wrong with it."

I suggest one thing, you can try to dl the ISO and mount it, see what is going on .

John Hurstm,

"However, Apps DOES = Applications. I have done this both ways, and when I keep apps, ALL is kept."

so this mean all windows 10 application, apps, accounting, desktop icon and onedrive (if any) still here and it is just like repair windows corrupt files ?
I do not use One Drive, but otherwise, yes, all kept and works as a repair.

I always back up first as a precaution.
"I always back up first as a precaution."

ok, as the Windows 10 already has problem I don't think I need to backup the system, but I will backup the rest, things.

you said you tried that and I trust you it should not have any problmem.
I have downloaded it a long time ago, extracted the files and there is an install.wim. If there weren't Windows wouldn't be able to install. It is a requirement.
Thank you and good luck.
rindi,

"I have downloaded it a long time ago, extracted the files and there is an install.wim. If there weren't Windows wouldn't be able to install. It is a requirement."

might be they change the way on how it works. I suggest you try one more time and see if you see the install.wim.
I have the November build, which is the last official build, and that includes the install.wim.
my one, I just download again, don't have it either, I think you can just try to download again and see if MS take it away
I've just re-downloaded it, opened the iso with 7z, and found a 3,477 GB install.wim file in the sources directory. It's the main file for the installation that contains most of the OS files to be installed, it has to be there.
my ISO only 3.14GB, you dl US version ,right?

I just tried John Hurst's suggest to use the ISO and setup.exe to upgrade  the PC by keeping personnal file and setting, it seems working fine for me.
I downloaded the international English 64bit version, 1511.
then I don't understand why,, me too. not I found 1 apps doesn't work even after the upgrade of PC.
I found 1 apps doesn't work even after the upgrade of PC.  That happened to me when I upgraded to Build 1511. I had to get upgraded applications and in one case, find a different way.
yes, you are right,  this is a windows apps, weibo apps from china, I found it is interesting that  after I reinstall it, the usage of latest edition totally diff. might be that's why it doesn't work.

FB app is not good, keep crashing from time to time.
rindi,

"international English ", it seems there are no edition like this... only UK English and US English .
if that ISO setup way is working fine , why focus on DISM, right?

any diff on DISM ? or DISM is much faster?
Maybe the selection you get depends on where you are located. I am in Switzerland and can choose between US-, UK-, International-, English, N, NK and further languages.
yeah, I can only have 2 choice, can see why! not very good.

but the ISO setup already solve a lot of problems even I see some folder appear with weired name.
