Problem with Bitlocker key not matching

I turned on bitlocker on my computer. I saved the recovery key to file and printed it out. When I rebooted it keeps saying the recovery key is wrong.

I was able to boot off windows 10 usb drive and unlock the drive using the same key and turn off bitlocker from the command prompt.  Why would it work to unlock it from recovery console but not during boot. Makes no sense. In case it matters I am running windows 10.

"When I rebooted it keeps saying the recovery key is wrong." - please clarify. What protector (PIN/Password/USB-Key/TPM-only) did you configure? And when you rebooted, could you ever successfully use that protector or did it ask for the recovery key right from the first reboot after encrypting?
->just seeing your new comment. It should of course not matter.

Initially I used the default settings and after the reboot it asked for the 48 digit recovery key. When I changed to use the old version of encryption it did not ask for any key on reboot, it just rebooted right back into windows. I then changed it for require a PIN on boot.

Obviously at this point everything is working but only after changing to use the old version of bit locker encryption.

Being a computer tech I would like to know in general for the future why it did not work.

Didn't really get an answer. I just changed it to use old version of bitlocker encryption and that worked
WiddleAvi, please acknowledge that you did stop responding to questions of mine. Those questions were posed in order to help you. So unless you don't feel like solving it, stay committed to your question.
Mcknife - It asked for the key on the first reboot to confirm the key before encrypting but it always failed. There is no reason to troubleshoot further because I ended up using the other option to encrypt so I would not be able to test any possible solutions.
One more thing to clarify - I did not choose any option for PIN/TPM etc. When t geurning on encryption it auto generated a key and prompted me to save the key (which I did  to a txt file and printed it) and then on reboot it would prompt for me to type in that key.
If no password or pin is chosen, nor a USB key is prepared for unlocking the device, it would mean the sole protector would be the TPM. I have not ever seen that fail, but you never know. Interesting.
Also, i have never seen that it wouldn't accept the recovery key on one device but on the other - and i have a long history with bitlocker, hundreds of devices.

File it under "weird" ;-)
Ok, we should really close, then. Please re-select your own answer.

Bye.
