Fill DVDs or BRs with a maximum of files

Hello. I have hundreds of files on my HDD to backup on DVDs or BRs. The question is : what's the best combination of files that will fit on a blank DVD or BR? Depending of the set of files I select, the media will be used at 95%, 97% etc... The idea is to find the best set so that almost 100% of the media is used. Is there any software that can do this? When I used Nero, it will only tell me if I exceed the storage space but I have to select files manually and test in an iterative way. Thanks

why store them on these?
buy a couple of 2-4 TB  drives, and use that as backup
MUCH cheaper, and you have 2 backups!

It isn't a very good idea to almost completely fill optical disks. When full they are less reliable and the data at the outer rim of the disk usually gets unreadable in a relatively short period of time.

Use backup software, most backup tools allow you to split the backup files into 2GB chunks. You can then save 2 of those 2GB files on 1 DVD.

But be very careful on how you store the DVD's (or BD's). They should stay in a cool, dry and dark place, and you should only take them out of that storage when you really need to restore something.

you can also consider usb  sticks, they come in sizes over 100GB now

Specifically for your question, use back up software and then compression tools can "slice" the backup file into chunks of data size that you define so you could break the backup into chunks of 4.7GB and you would use the fewest DVDs (or apply the same idea to BR).  It would work but it doesn't stop it being a bad idea for the reasons listed above.  Optical archival storage materials are not as reliable as magnetic or solid state.

if your goel is to  BACKUP to this media - think twice : how long will they exist?
cd -DVD - are moving out already - usb is the new connection
or use the cloud

if you want your backup to be usable in 10 years, better have a couple of drives and mobo' running them too  + software
There are a few reasons that bring me to prefer DVD on that case. One of them being that if I want to share a few software with friends, I don't need to transport a portable HDD that has 2TB of valuable data. I used both HDD and DVDs depending on needs. And here it is rather for archiving than backing up.

Storage

Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. In addition to local storage devices like CD and DVD readers, hard drives and flash drives, solid state drives can hold enormous amounts of data in a very small device. Cloud services and other new forms of remote storage also add to the capacity of devices and their ability to access more data without building additional data storage into a device.
