OSX 10.11.3 Host File resets

Hi,

So i have some custom entries in my host file, But since the latest OSX update My host file whenever I Add, Modifiy or remove anything from the host file resets itself back to how it was before.

I have a couple of websites that IP have changed so this then removes access which is obviously not helpful.

Its normally about 30 seconds after making the change there reverted. I have tried making the change in terminal (with and without sudo) Notepad, TextWrangler and using the HostAdmin App. All has the same result

Any one have any ideas?

Try using the freeware TextWrangler to edit the hosts file:

Ermmm?
Sorry. Missed that you had already tried TextWrangler.

Try booting into safe mode by holding down the shift key, then amend the hosts file and see if it sticks.
By the way, were you using a version of TextWrangler downloaded from the Apple Store, or one downloaded directly from BareBones Software? They are different. The version downloaded from the Apple Store may not be able to save host files:

The host file should be edited by root or by a user that can become root through sudo.
Thanks

I will give safe mode a try.

Previously I have never had any problems editing the host file up until the latest osx update last week no matter how i updated it.
Ok - I tried safemode this morning and it didnt work. I noticed that OpenVPN has added some hosts in there however. So i am going to remove that and see if that makes any difference.
It seems it was the OpenVPN Client that was reseting the host file. I didnt even have the client running which is worrying! All resolved now.

Thanks
