Event ID #2216

I am receiving this ID from the source IIS-W3SVC-WP. I am not sure why I just started getting this message.

How do I fix this issue on my security server?
Windows Server 2008

The event record should contain the URL that caused it. That would be where you start tracking down the problem. One possible cause is a reference to a non-existent CGI script or one whose permissions do not allow the server to execute it.

Hi jmcg,

The URL is http://MVS-SEPM.miamivalleysteel.com:8059/officescan/cgi/cgiLog.exe'

When I click to open the URL it gives me a ( -5 ) when it opens.

Any thoughts?

Is this web address under your control? If so, check the path indicated by officescan/cgi/cgiLog.exe

The -5 is just an indication that an error occurred while attempting to invoke the CGI program. Could be nonexistent program, incorrect permissions - so the program can't execute, or possibly the "-5" is a Errno value on the system running the web server: on Linux, an errno of 5 indicates some sort of input/output error. That could mean the program can be executed, but it encounters an error when it tries to run.

Great!

If you care to post here what you did to fix it, you can accept that as a zero-point answer and benefit others who run into a similar problem. If that's too much trouble, we should ask that the question be deleted.

I won't object to closing this question as proposed, but I suggest that - due to the lack of resolution - it might be better to simply delete the question.

As to dfenter's indication that the interaction here was not responsive enough to meet his desire for an immediate solution, I can only say I'm sorry.

jmcg you did great. You led me in the right direction. I had to do an IISRESET to fix my problem. Rebooting the server did not help.

You can delete the question, that is fine with me. You should still get the points for your answers because they were correct in leading me to finding my solution.

I'm a bit surprised that IISRESET fixed the problem where a reboot did not, since I would have thought that one of the steps of the reboot should have been equivalent to an IISRESET. But there are many squirrelly things that could go wrong in a webserver, so perhaps the slightly gentler kick made a difference.

I totally agree. I was surprised myself.

I received the right info for going in the right direction, but I want to be on the phone or have someone here working with me to get it resolved quickly. The waiting on sending an email and then sending another and waiting for an answer. I don't have time for that. I want to keep working on the problem to get it fixed ASAP.
