File level replication CIFS migration software suggestions

Hi,

Looking for good tool to replicate files at the byte level. I am moving data betweenness CIFS shares to consolidate the data into DFS namespaces.

That being said, most of the tools that I have tested are being licensed by server migration for example Doubletake, Dell Secure Copy, etc (very expensive)

Robocopy will be tedious and difficult to manage because the amount of data we are copying and the way is changing while the replication takes place.

Any ideas on what to use and how to approach the data migration for the CIFS between SAN (it's NetApp but can't use snap mirror because they are in two different version of ONTAP)

I see... When a virtual machine needs to be migrated between hosts that do not share storage, vMotion copies the data across the vMotion network using some of the Storage vMotion code. A separate article will appear soon expanding on the technical bits of this process.

So I could essentially vmotion/svmotion C:and D: to a the other server if I had to? Which will basically copy the everything to the other local datastore and/or a shares datastore? Without impacting production?
