Office for Mac 2016 autosave feature in Word and Excel not working

I have a user using Office for mac 2016 but in word and excel the auto save features do not seem to be working as.

When excel or word crashes and he has to force close them he has no auto recover options and if we check the autorecovery folder there are no saved files.

Hi,

Is the autorecovery checked in the preferences tab? You can find further details in this site:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macword/autosavebackups-in-office-for-mac-2016-preview/aa1f55a4-6df6-49de-a2e8-de033de2f688

Note If the AutoRecovery files are not in the Microsoft User Data folder, verify that the default location has not changed. To do this, follow these steps:
Start Word for Mac.
On the Word menu, click Preferences.
Click File Locations.
Note the folder location that is listed for AutoRecover files.
Click OK. Then, quit Word.

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

We are going to test it the autorecovery is saving files as that will possibly eliminate if the issue is with the auto save or the crashing issue.

Thanks
Hi Yamaafg,

We did a test where we had a file open in word and excel for longer than the autosave time and the word file created a temp recovery file. But excel did not.

But there are no old files in the recovery area, so when it is crashing it appears that the system is not seeing the crash as a crash and so is clearing out the recovery files.

Any suggestions?
Almost every Mac I work on needs to have the permissions repaired using the disk utility.  I don't know why they get messed up; but, they do!
Davis,

I am not familiar with Mac's can you confirm the steps to do this please.

Regards
Andy
Finder -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility and then click the button. Verify the disk, check the permissions, and then fix the permissions as long as the verify doesn't fail.
Hi Davis,

Ran the First aid and it was happy that nothing needed fixing or verifying but the problem still exists any further suggestions?
This is out of curiosity; but, does EAUSUS free recovery find them? http://www.easeus.com/mac-file-recovery/autosave-backup-and-restore-office-2016-for-mac.html
BTW, lots of people are b*tching about this same problem.......
