Sharepoint 2013 site access for external developer

Experts,
We use Sharepoint 2013 online. I have hired an outside developer to do some custom site work for us.
I didn't consider how to give this person access, and now need some guidance.

The site is an internal intranet site. I assume he cannot simply access the site and will need some level of authentication. Do I need to add him into AD?  trying to avoid full domain access if possible.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi there,

This luckily can be an easy configuration. SharePoint Online currently allows you to share the site with an external user by having them login using a LiveID. Check out this Microsoft page with some guidelines...
