Nothing appearing in the footer

Looks like the </body> tag is before the <footer> in the "view source".

Did you edit any of the theme's page component templates like page.php or footer.php?

Have any customized content added via functions.php?

this seems to be a WordPress site. can you tell us what theme you are using?

You got me. It seems to me that correcting that problem would have required modifying one of the theme's template files.

I have excess to the back end. opened the file through ftp and changed it

What file? Wordpress builds pages by combining content output from several template files.

oh you are right.

I did it in file named home.php

home.php sounds like a template file. Perhaps you could zip up your theme folder and post it. MAYBE I can find some problem. I don't know what else to offer. All we can see form the outside looking in is the resulting html which shows no content inside the footer.

There SHOULD be a way to manage the footer content in Appearance ―> Widgets

I could give more precise help if I knew what theme you are using...

Your theme template files (home.php, index.php, single.php, etc) should have get_footer(); at the bottom, not the actual HTML code. Like others said here, you will need to supply us with some files, at least the home.php file.
