Thanks for your reply. Protected view for Outlook attachments is already turned off. This issue is occuring when Excel and Word documents are previewed in the reading pane.

If it helps, modifying a registry key related to previewer , seems to be one possible fix

If that doesn't help and it is as your error states the file is corrupt you will need to go to the original owner and find out what's going on, corrupt is a very broad term windows sometimes uses that says it doesn't know why. Could be a virus software interpretation and scans it and that corrupts it?
You could also try using process monitor  from systinternals to seek out the problem,
