asked on

linux juniper redhat why use for firewalls

ive not really understood why some companies use these types of firewalls & not just stick to asa ios types as this is type i have used although i have used isa 2006 in the passed although just enough to get it up & running and a vpn via radius:

- redhat
- Linux
- unix - is a different language so i assume this is why but i assume can  also be configured as a firewall but i think windows can run on unix, but ive never really understood this.

- juniper - i think it is cat os & became popular after cisco ios

- checkpoint - i think has been around since asa as first pix, but this was upgraded to what is now called asa types

question 1.  can anyone give me some specific advice so i can absorb why exactly or are they just popular brands that have made it onto the market although redhat, Linux & unix maybe of different languages but not sure  ?
