asked on

Firefox home page

Using Win7.

Attempted to download an app. Download came with stuff I didn't want. Aborted installation.

Now, when starting Firefox, something called "WOW" comes up.

How do I get rid of that? I want my original Firefox home page, which was the log in. I use more than one log in (user name and password), so it was handy for me for Firefox to start with the log in screen.

Look in Firefox AddOns -> Extensions and remove anything that is new or you don't recognize.  If it's not there, look in Remove Programs to see if it is there and uninstall it.  You may have to do both.

Didn't see WOW in AddOns -> Extensions
www.wow.com was listed in Control panel -> Programs.
Deleted it. Made no difference.

Went to Firefox Options.
"Home page" appeared as www.wow.com
I take that to mean the WOW page is not local on my machine, but is accessed from the web.
Clicked on "restore default"

That got rid of WOW, but the default page is not the sign-in.
I want the sign-in page to appear when I start Firefox. The one that asks for my ID and password.

There are many parts to Wow.  This will show you how to remove all.

Then run  antivirus and antimalware scan .

Dave:

Your remark about not knowing what I am trying to access is the key. It triggered my brain. Should have realized I was looking at it from the wrong direction. Firefox is one thing. Google and Yahoo etc, are something else.

I drilled down until I found the Yahoo login. Then I dragged the tab over to the Firefox "home page" icon. That fixed everything.

Dave: Thank you.

Sudeep: Good advice. I did what you said.

I'm back to "normal".

Web browsers are applications used primarily to display documents, files and media from the Internet, identified by a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) that can be a page, image, video or other file. Some browsers require the use of add-ons or extensions to safely render the information they receive; others have systems built into them to perform the same functions.
